What Kathryn is Doing today — Happy Halloween!
Greetings Cupcakes. I’m posting at 5:52am because I’ve been awake since 3:30. If anyone has a great, non-drug induced remedy for insomnia, please write me!
Now then: Dress-like-a-Hoe- Halloween Pictures.
Moi: American Apparel sock dress, $28. Urban Outfitters belt, $5. Forever21 headband, $2. Shoes from Marshalls, $10. Legwarmers, I actually wear them as a dancer. Target earrings, $6. Home-dyed wig, $10. Mac eyeshadow, $10.
I dyed all those wigs, kids! All of them! Like a freaking mad scientist, or like someone who doesn’t have obligations so she actually has TIME to piddle with things like Hand Dyed Wigs.
–But whatev guys. Good times have always been my number one priority. (See you at Creative Cause, right?)
We actually had several girls in their early twenties say something to the effect of “OH MY GOSH! It’s JEM!”
Totally worthwhile.
Side note– Be sure to only give your trick or treaters full size candy bars if you live in an apartment, kiddies. I’ve had a grand total of fourteen in the last two years, so the least I can do is give them a big bite of sugar.
Creative Cause Event — A BONUS
And dearies, if you want to save even more $$$ feel free to type “Eskimo” into the promo code box.
Gets you $15 off.
I love you, and you’re welcome.
Wig pics coming soon!
Atlanta this — Something worth $60
Here is a suggestion for an event (at which you will likely meet moi) that might be worth the cash it costs you:
It’s $45 for the event and $60 for a VIP pass. And it’s an AIDS benefit. For children.
Yeah, you should come with me.
Clickity click for the website, loves. Can’t wait to party with you at the open bar.
Ask Katlanta — FX wha?
Kathryn,
I read your guide on how to dye an acrylic wig, and I was wondering if the same thing would work on an acrylic fake fur coat.
I also did a quick search for FX Ink and couldn’t find it. Is it available at chain arts and crafts stores like Michaels?
Thanks for your help,
Ike
Ike dearie, I would imagine that it would indeed work on fake fur. Just spot test it first.
I don’t know if they carry FX at Michaels. I purchased mine at Pearl Arts and Crafts. I imagine any art specialty store would carry it. Maybe Utrecht?
Thank you, Ike, for finally giving me good reason to have a BFA in Art History– I could reasonably answer both of your questions.
So are you going to be the Jolly Green Pimp for Halloween or something?
Ask Katlanta — Who is punking me?
Deer KaTLANtahhhh.,…,,,/./
Ah waz thankin dat WE shult all Bees peoples from da eightys. Fer HalloweEEn.
BeeestieErKA
Who is punking me? I mean, I know I did a birthday party for an NFL player once, but that doesn’t exactly qualify me for D-list celebrity status. Seriously. And should I pronounce Beeestie like “best-ee” or “beast-ee”?
Dost thou mock my blog?
Fine. I’ll answer the damn question.
***Warning- Bad fashion ahoy. Jump the fence below at your own risk.
Wigs!
Here they are. I’m not posting my faces until we have appropriate makeup. For full effect, I mean. You can see the original color of the wigs in the blonde hair around the bottom of the pink one. I bought one wig used and one from Plato’s closet.
Clickety click for bigger images. Also, here is a picture of my baby Pierre. He will be a princess for Halloween, but he’s comfortable with his feminine side so it’s okay.
Internet this– How much do you love ‘em?
I do. I’ve worn two pairs of boots almost exactly like this, save the print, through until the bottoms fell off.
Do you love ‘em for twenty bucks?
Me too. Better hurry before I buy the last of your size.
<—— Clickety click.
This is a little something to hold us all over until I find my digicam cord to show my finished creations… coming today though, promise!
Halloween: How-to Dye an Acrylic Wig for Cheap
This is who I am going to be for Halloween.
I am also planning to make another 80’s cartoon character costume for a friend of mine. This one. ![]()
These two characters are Jem and Aja from Jem and the Holograms.
Don’t write me to tell me how old I am. I already know, TYVM. Yes, I watched the show in my childhood.
Now then: How to Dye Acrylic Wigs Bright Colors for a Lot Cheaper Than You Can Buy Them.
Step 1: Get a cheap(ish) blonde acrylic wig ($15 or so). I once bought a wig for $5, and that was way too cheap.
Step 2. Get FX Ink from an art store. Make sure you shake the dropper bottle and see the color you want. ($5)
Step 3. Mix rubbing alcohol and ink in 80/20 mix in a misting bottle. Go to well-ventilated area. Spray wig. Let dry. Repeat 5x.
I’ll post the rest of this tomorrow with pics of the blue wig I dyed. It is so sweet!
Yoplait? Yoplease…
Please girl. Gimme a break.
This one makes me so confused you get two posts from me in one day.
Every time you send in a pink top from a container of Yoplait yogurt they will dedicate 10 cents to breast cancer research.
…
First of all, Yoplait is a cheap and crummy yogurt. It has the equivalent of Jell-o mixed into it and is GROSS. IMHO.
Second of all, just write a damn check to breast cancer research. Hell, use your credit card and send that extra 40 cents you would’ve spent on postage. Don’t gorge yourself on jellogurt just to pay for postage and have Yoplait dedicate a whopping 6 bucks.
Buy organic and donate because you actually care.
Please!
